We begin working with young singers around ages 6 or 7, once they are able to match pitch and focus through a 30-minute lesson. At this stage, we focus on breathing, posture, pitch accuracy, and storytelling through song. Many younger students begin with a mix of folk songs, classic musical theater, and accessible classical repertoire.
We keep lessons upbeat and age-appropriate, using games and movement exercises to make concepts like phrasing and articulation come alive. Young singers also benefit from learning how to listen critically and express themselves with confidence.
As students grow into their voices, we begin introducing more technical concepts like dynamic contrast, range extension, and clear diction. We also help with preparation for school performances, youth theater auditions, and music exams.
Teen singers often come to us with specific goals in mind. Some want to audition for their high school musical or regional theater production. Others are looking to build classical repertoire for college auditions. Still others simply want to sing with more ease and develop their personal style.
We work one-on-one to build a vocal program that meets each teen where they are. This might include art songs by Schubert, arias from student-friendly operas, or musical theater favorites from composers like Sondheim or Pasek and Paul. We discuss text interpretation, emotional delivery, vowel shaping, and vocal health.
We also introduce teens to ear training and sight singing so they can approach new music with more independence and skill. Learning to recognize intervals, hold harmonies, and follow a conductor is a big part of becoming a capable vocalist, especially in ensemble or performance settings.
Many adults take voice lessons for personal enjoyment. Some have years of experience, while others are total beginners. Regardless of your background, we will tailor your lessons to your interests and goals. If you’re looking to sing in a church choir, perform at an open mic, audition for a show, or just sing for fun, we can help you find the right material and build your voice week by week. We will explore breath control, tone placement, vocal flexibility, and expression, always at a pace that works for you.
Adults often appreciate a balance between technical work and repertoire study. Lessons may include warm-ups and exercises, then transition into songs chosen based on vocal range, style, and challenge level. We work with classical repertoire, jazz standards, folk songs, opera arias, musical theater ballads, and popular music alike.
Musical theater singers face unique vocal demands. We train musical theater students in a way that supports a healthy belt, dynamic head voice, and seamless mixing technique. We also help with audition prep, including selecting appropriate cuts, working on diction, and polishing stage presence. Many of our students prepare for school shows, conservatory auditions, or summer intensives. Because musical theater often involves singing in character, we focus on storytelling and emotional connection in every piece. You’ll learn how to bring the lyrics to life, shape each phrase with intention, and perform with confidence.
Voice lessons teach much more than how to carry a tune. Students develop clearer speech, stronger breath support, better posture, and more control over their presence in the room. For shy children, lessons can improve communication and self-confidence. For adults, voice training often leads to stronger speaking habits, which can be helpful for presentations, interviews, or daily communication. Whether your goal is to perform at Lincoln Center, sing at a wedding, or simply enjoy music with greater confidence, learning to use your voice in a healthy, expressive way can change how you relate to the world.
